Frequently asked questions

How do I start hands-free voice training?

Open the Training tab, choose Practice or Challenge, and tap Tap to speak once. Say the NATO word for the letter shown. After a correct answer, the next letter appears and the app listens again automatically. Tap Stop training to end the session.

What is the difference between Practice and Challenge?

Practice lets you retry an incorrect word. Challenge tests all 26 letters, one attempt per letter, and shows a final result.

Why isn't the microphone or speech recognition working?

Confirm that microphone permission is enabled. On iPhone, also enable Speech Recognition under the app's settings or under Settings → Privacy & Security → Speech Recognition. On Android, go to Settings → Apps → NATO Voice Trainer → Permissions → Microphone. Make sure your device has a working speech recognition service. Some speech services require an internet connection.

Why did the app hear a different word?

Speech recognition sometimes substitutes similar-sounding words. The app accommodates several known variations, including “Ciara” for Sierra, “go back” for Quebec, and “angle” for Tango. Try speaking clearly in a quiet area. If a particular word still causes trouble, email support with the displayed letter and what the app heard.

Do I have to tap the microphone for every letter?

No. One tap starts a continuous training session. The app automatically listens for the next answer until you stop training or the session ends. Temporary speech recognition interruptions may require you to restart listening.

Can I use training without an internet connection?

The alphabet reference and saved statistics are available locally. Voice recognition depends on your device's speech recognition service; some devices and languages support on-device processing, while others may require network access.

Where is my progress saved?

Your training statistics are stored on your device. There is no account or cloud sync. Uninstalling the app or clearing app data may remove saved progress.

How do I hear a NATO word pronounced?

Open the Alphabet tab and tap the speaker icon alongside any letter and code word. Your device will speak the pronunciation.
